Purpose of The Timothy Project

“He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

In this one Bible verse, the purpose of The Timothy Project is contained. Seeking to follow God’s will in our lives, showing mercy to others as God has shown mercy to us through Jesus and investing ourselves in places of injustice are our guiding principles.

Cliff Christian, Founder, Director, The Timothy Project

Cliff Christian is a native of NC and grew up in the area made famous as Mayberry in the classic TV series “The Andy Griffith Show.” A graduate of Wake Forest University, he followed that with a successful stint in business.

In the mid 1980′s, responding to God’s call to full time service, he entered Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He has served churches in Indiana, Kentucky and North Carolina. He has served as a pastoral counselor in KY and NC and continues to work in his church’s counseling center.

As President of CTI Group Adventures, Cliff helped develop a service network for church recreation among churches in the southeast. In 2007, noting the desire to be close to the heart of the life and work of Jesus, and the great need for a better sense of community in our world, he founded The Timothy Project.

1 Timothy 4:12 is the formative text, expressing confidence in young people’s ability to be agents of God’s grace in active engagement in our communities. Initially part of a support system for Western NC Slavic Ministries, the ministry of The Timothy Project has grown to include a number of locations. Our partner churches and youth groups address a wide cross section of needs.

Cliff lives in Asheville, NC with his wife Jeanette, a public school teacher and administrator, and their Jack Russell, Chloe. They have one daughter, Lauren, a student at UNC-Chapel Hill.
